Kevin Spacey is upset about the BBC showing Maria, Any Dream and I'd Do Anything casting shows, claiming, quite rightly, that they are just 13-week promotions for ALW's latest shows and that serious stage productions don't get anywhere near that much publicity.
Cue the next big idea for a show from The BBC: "To be or Not To be: The search for the new Hamlet"

I beleive Frank Gallagher might be the next Hamlet having been discovered delivering fine monologues from the gutters and spotted by a passing casting-director popping onto the estate for a packet of fags and an E !

Pro They are, quite rightly, purely promotional shows, but on the flip side I think it is introducing more people to the musical theatre that may not have been interested before (i.e. they prefer Ant and Dec to ALW).

I have not watched his TV shows much since the Maria ones. I only watch it rarely for the singing!

True enough, but that's the nature of the game. Anything that gets people interested in the theatre (even if it's not his shows) has to be good for him, right?

I saw this on the news this morning and I never thought about it before but he has a point really doesnt he I mean it is a 13 week advertisement on the BBC! that has to be worth a fortune alone!!
