Ain't the internet a wonderful thing?
This afternoon I was asked for some advice about horses. I know nothing about horses, I've never owned one, never wanted to own one and only ridden one once around the Pyramids at Giza (therein hangs a tale or two!)
A friend of a friend's girlfriend - I know, convoluted social life - was offered a horse for nothing, and the vendor even offered to pay the stable fees and everything. That in itself made even myself feel a bit wary, but she was all for it. She sent for a vet to look it over, and he said that it had Shivers and wouldn't touch it. The FFGF was not put off, she wants a horse. My friend asked me to do a bit of research as he hadn't heard of Shivers as a disease and I had my lappy at the ready so I did.
I then had the sad task of telling FFGF that said horse more than likely was suffering from either Equine Motor Neuron Disease or would probably already be suffering from osteoarthritis and it would be inadvisable to ride it.
I'm just glad that she turned the offer down.
Just goes to prove the old saying wrong - you should always look a gift horse in the mouth. And legs.
