Some of the few benefits of the smoking ban when applied to pubs...

    1. On chilly nights at least your beer's always cold.

    2. On those rare balmy days of summer non-smokers won't be able to find a free space in the beer garden!

    3. If you forget your lighter, there's always going to be one near you!

I may be able to think of some others, bur those are the ones that struck me today.

Always look on the bright side of life :)

Ain't the internet a wonderful thing?

This afternoon I was asked for some advice about horses. I know nothing about horses, I've never owned one, never wanted to own one and only ridden one once around the Pyramids at Giza (therein hangs a tale or two!)

A friend of a friend's girlfriend - I know, convoluted social life - was offered a horse for nothing, and the vendor even offered to pay the stable fees and everything. That in itself made even myself feel a bit wary, but she was all for it. She sent for a vet to look it over, and he said that it had Shivers and wouldn't touch it. The FFGF was not put off, she wants a horse. My friend asked me to do a bit of research as he hadn't heard of Shivers as a disease and I had my lappy at the ready so I did.

I then had the sad task of telling FFGF that said horse more than likely was suffering from either Equine Motor Neuron Disease or would probably already be suffering from osteoarthritis and it would be inadvisable to ride it.

I'm just glad that she turned the offer down.

Just goes to prove the old saying wrong - you should always look a gift horse in the mouth. And legs.

  • I knew it would be like this.

Sitting in my favourite boozer (quelle surprise;)) practically on my own.

There's no-one here! It's dead.:zz: The life has been sucked out of the cornerstone of British society - The traditional smoky country pub.

Give it a couple of weeks and the place will resemble a bloody kindergarten as the non-smokers drag their unruly kids down the pub for the afternoon. :**:

    In other news:

Lewis H - another race, another podium finish! Is there no stopping the guy?
OK, he came third, but it's increased his championship lead. I bet Fernando's fuming deep down inside :))
I'm so looking forward to next week's race. It'll give Lewis a big boost if he gets a win on his home GP.

I leave you with this thought:

Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another. This immaturity is self-imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another. Sapere Aude! "Dare to know" - that is the motto of enlightenment.

    Immanuel Kant (1724-1804)
